McCain

I really enjoyed the the speech of John McCain tonight. I saw a true hero and leader tonight. Lots of good ideas and patriotism.

The political fence

I was on the fence politically this year... I will say that Barack Obama give a great, motivational speech. I find myself leaning towards the Republican Side as even though I strongly disagree with some of the parties plans (pro life, religion ...), I can respect them for their belief and core values.

Summer Computer Swap

Well July is here and it time for the annual computer purchase at the college. We replace computer labs with new computers and put the old one out to staff and faculty.

This year most of our faculty will have laptops. So recovery of a stolen laptop is on my mind.. I found an open source lojack system called Adeona. I think due to a tight budget we will probably implement this product this year.

New Bonsai

I just started 4 Honeylocust Bonsai. They are all volunteers that were growing around my new willow I planted in the back yard. Thay are all about 2 inchs tall. I have seen some great images of what they can look like. So I am eager to see how these develope.

Short Vacation to Wichita

After long weeks at work, I needed to get away, so packed up the Family and off to Wichita we went. Got a great deal on a nice hotel from priceline. 2 nights, no phone calls and only the PC for surfing , Much needed family time.

My son drove his first go-cart today, had his first wreck as well. Eyes on the road not on Mom with the camera. His laughter as I drove a 2 seat-er around the track ... priceless.  All my work stress is melting away with his smiles.

Migration Successful

We successfully migrated our email, file system and directory service over to Microsoft. We all have little victory parties as we began to turn off the Novell services one by one.

The file system is one of the more difficult things I had to migrate over. I feel that Novell did a great job of the file structure and shares.

Novell to Microsoft Conversion

At work we have been tasked with migrating from Novell to Microsoft. We use Novell for file, user authentication and Groupwise for email. Still in the planning process, we are trying to learn as much as possible about Active Directory and Exchange. I have built 4 new servers over the last week and purchased the Quest software to convert the Groupwise to Exchange. My knowledge is in Web Design and general computer support. Since our director was deployed to Iraq. My role in the IT department has changed to more a Network Systems Manager.
