Actually, Kansas doesn't seem to have many tornadoes. It is just that when they do have them, they stay on the ground a long time, which creates a lot of spectacular pictures for CNN!

I remember living in Wichita as a kid and watching the tornados out by the lakes...I think Lake Cheney was one of them you could actually see then. The rope like ones were the easiest to spot! I know...weird...watching them, but ya know...they're really sort of attractive!! LOL!

Another myth is that the "wild west" still exists in Kansas. Yes, there are people that think we still have cowboys and indians riding horses and fighting in Kansas.
People from other countries? How about people from THIS country! I have ran into people in New York City that think that we are still playing Cowboys and Indians for real in Kansas! It amazes me how silly some people can be!
I thought the Little House on the Prairie stories took place in California prairie. Of course, the stories that were in the book that the show was based on, were probably set when that part of the USA was still territorial, and there were no states yet.
You can actually visit the possible location of the Ingalls homestead just south of Independence! Its a neat little bitty cabin and there is also an old school building and a post office, I believe. My grandmother was born and raised in Independence and she is now buried in a cemetery just up the road from the Little House on the Prairie Park.

Haha, I've also always wondered about Kansas having tornados because of Wizard Of Oz.
People used to say Kansas is the best place to snowboard, but it doesn't snow in Kansas, does it?
Okay, enlighten me - Does
Okay, enlighten me - Does Kansas get more than its share of tornadoes, or does it just seem that way because of The Wizard of Oz?

People from other countries probably get that idea from watching reruns of Gunsmoke on television.
