Horses

Hi everybody! I'm a horse lover from birth it seems like. My first ride was at age 6 months! LOL We had Quarter horses and Morgans until we moved to Harper in "72" After that it was hit and miss until I married my hubby who was military at the time. Most military bases have horse riding facilities nearby so I was in good shape. Another dry spell after we got out for about 3 years then bought an older gelding to ride. Several years ago I was kicked by a horse that had mental issues and I have not done any riding since that time. The injuries were sever and slow to heal. At this time, I now have 3 miniature horses one of which was born last sunday. A beautiful filly sired by an 8 time national champion. She is just everything I could ask for in a mini. You can see this pretty little girl at this link. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/ratherberidin50/Momsnewfamilyad... Let's hear from all you horse lovers out there!!

Your horses are too lovely

Your horses are too lovely especially the cute little one. Well, you should be kidding you had a ride at the age of 6 months :P Who was with you then? My first ride was at 9 and I was much afraid even at that age.

My older sister snuck me out

My older sister snuck me out of the house to my mom's horror and was parading me up and down the dirt road I lived on.  LOL  She was 12 at the time.  I seemed to fit nicely on just behind the saddle horn.   She had been asked to baby sit and she didn't want to miss out on her ride for the day as it was getting along toward evening.

When I was younger I rode

When I was younger I rode ponies and showjumped for the country as I got older I found boys and what a bad decision that was, I gave it all up and do look back and think what if! now I dont have the money or the time to have horses which is a shame.

Yes, time is always the issue.  Just when you think you are going to have time to do this kind of thing, something happens to change it.

I'm as healed as I'm going

I'm as healed as I'm going to get from the horse kicking me.  That was about 7 years ago.  He got me 3 times.  2 of those directly in the stomache and once in my right hand which required surgery to repair.  I now have a metal plated in that thumb.  So I stay away from larger horses simply because I'm NOT supposed to break that thumb again. LOL  The mini's fill the bill for me.  I would ride again if the animal was pretty bomb proof.  But for now I get my horsie fix with the mini's.   I know what you mean about the mounted police officers.  The dog handlers are the same way.  Their critters are like family to them.  I have never gotten to ride on the beach.  That would be an awesome experience!!  Who knows what the future will bring.

What a pretty horsey! Sorry,

What a pretty horsey! Sorry, I can't help but become a kid when I see horses. I live in NYC and the only horses I see are the ones that police ride. But I have been known to be one of those silly women who pets those horses as the policeman on top smiles and beams as he talks about his four legged partner. (No, I wasn't flirting -- much)

I'm sorry that your injury was as bad as it sounds and has kept you off horses ever since. Have you tried to go to a place that uses horses as physical therapy? That way you can again ride and get stronger at the same time.

If you ever show your horses anywhere, tell us all about it here! I'd love to see more pictures.

I have had a horse before..

I have had a horse before.. well not really a horse, more a pony.

It was a full blood arabic pony.

Its very nice driving it on the beach.

I know Ken!!  I've taken my spills down through the years.  But I just need the horses in my life.  They are so theraputic for me.  I don't have to ride.  Just taking care of them and sitting back in my chair watching them graze is relaxing.
