I roll coins and deposit the amount in my bank account, or exchange them for paper money.
But I'm amazed to see people using a machine at the supermarket that accepts your loose coins, counts them and gives you a voucher that can only be used at the store, for a fee of 9% of the total.
I can't believe people use this machine. Have you seen one like it?

I put my money in my
I put my money in my account. I'd never do something like that. I'm not wasting even a coin.
It really gets my goat when
It really gets my goat when they take your coins and give ou a voucher for the store you are in. What good is that?
You are better off taking your change to the bank and putting the money into your own account!
Thats silly
I have never heard of machines doing that. We have a couple of those machines here but they actually give you money (paper cash) back.
It seems to me that people
It seems to me that people are willing to take the 9% hit just for the convenience... Personally I don't think a 9% hit to cound coins is very convenient at all.
Technically, you do not have
Technically, you do not have to roll the coins to take them to the bank. Most banks have coin counters. They will ask you if their amount matches yours. You don't have to pre-count. You can just accept their number and take your cash without a fee.
told my mother about
told my mother about simply taking the change to your bank and letting htem run it through the coin counter.
She's so neurotic that she insists you still have to count the mo ney before you take it in, just incase the machine makes a mistake!
She loves keeping life difficult.
Where I live the bank I have
Where I live the bank I have accounts with that has local branches only takes rolled coins or they have to send the money out to have it counted, which I do not trust. The only banks in my area I know that count as you wait are the credit unions and you have to be a member to use without a fee, which is the only reason I keep a basically dead savings account open at it.
Where I live people do that
Where I live people do that all the time. They lose a percentage of their money, but they do not seem to mind. I guess they just do not like to roll coins anymore.
I have seen those machines
I have seen those machines and am sorely tempted to stop the people who throw their money away there and tell them to let me roll it and keep the percentage that the machine asks for. I never do. I'm strange, but not THAT strange
I'm one of those people who really doesn't mind sitting and rolling coins. I always think of it as found money.
I always put all my change in a large mug on my piano. After it fills up, if I have the time I roll the change, but if I don't, I put it into a large glass bowl I keep by the TV. When that is filled I really get a thrill. I then have a fun time sorting and rolling the coins. I always say I am going to buy something foolish with it, but the rolls usually just go into the bank.
But I still get a kick thinking of the coins as found money.
