KDHE officials linked the advisory to a waterline break that caused a loss of pressure in the distribution system. When pressure drops, chlorine residuals may be reduced, raising the potential for bacterial contamination. Allen County RWD 10 leadership says the break has been fixed, but the advisory is still in effect.
Customers served by Allen County RWD 10—which is located south of Humboldt and extends to the Neosho County line—should follow boil water precautions until KDHE issues a rescind order based on testing at a certified laboratory. For questions, customers can contact the water system at 620-224-7370 or KDHE at 785-296-5514.
Restaurants and other food establishments with concerns about how the advisory affects their operations can reach the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s food safety & lodging program at 785-564-6767 or via email at [email protected].
