A suspect was arrested after a high-speed chase that drove the wrong-way vehicle into oncoming traffic lanes in Butler County, ending in a crash on Highway 77 south of El Dorado. KAKE reports deputies were called to help locate a wrong-way driver after the suspect exited the Kansas Turnpike near El Dorado.
Law enforcement pursued the vehicle through the county as the driver reached speeds above 110 mph and disregarded multiple traffic control devices, creating a public hazard. The chase ended when the suspect lost control and crashed; the person then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody.
After the crash, deputies recovered 2.2 pounds of suspected methamphetamine from the vehicle. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle had been recently stolen from Sedgwick County, and the suspect was transported for medical evaluation before facing multiple felony charges, including possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and felony fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
