Emporia officials reject petition aimed at stopping proposed data centers

Local officials in Emporia have denied a citizen initiative petition that residents and a community organization put forward to halt the development of data centers, according to KSNT 27 News.

The City of Emporia said in a July 10 press release that it received the petition earlier in the week. The petition failed to meet Kansas statutory requirements, leading the city to deny the request.

As a result, the proposed effort to stop data center development through the petition process will not move forward under the requirements cited by Kansas law.
