Federal disaster assistance has been approved to help Kansas supplement recovery efforts tied to severe storms, straight-line winds, large hail, and tornadoes and flooding that occurred April 26–27. FEMA says the assistance is available to support emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged in the affected areas.
The FEMA public assistance program provides federal funding on a cost-sharing basis for the state of Kansas, tribal governments, eligible local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations. Eligible recovery work covers damage in Cherokee, Morris, Osage, Saline and Wabaunsee counties.
Andrew P. Meyer has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas. FEMA also indicates that additional designations may be made later if the state requests them and further assessments warrant changes.
