FEMA funding is flowing to a Central Kansas utility project aimed at strengthening resilience and reducing future disaster damage. The federal agency awarded $11.2 million in total funding to support work across Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska, including restoration of critical infrastructure and investment in hazard mitigation measures.
In Kansas, FEMA provided $265,000 to the Ark Valley Electric Cooperative Association for utility pole repair and replacement. Ark Valley Electric serves about 5,260 rural members across its territory, as described in the report.
The grant is part of a larger $584 million nationwide package approved through FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities, Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs, which support rebuilding safer communities and protecting infrastructure from future events.
