Finney County’s Board of County Commissioners will consider a Special Use Permit request for the proposed Lone Bison Solar project at its July 6, 2026, meeting at 8:30 a.m. The agenda item is Resolution 13-2026, tied to an application submitted by Lone Bison Solar, LLC. The meeting takes place at the Finney County Administration Building, 311 N. 9th Street, Garden City.
The proposed project is a 330-megawatt Commercial Solar Energy Conversion System planned for areas generally in multiple sections of Township 25 South and Township 26 South in Range 34 West within Finney County, covering about 3,853 acres. Project components include solar modules, tracker systems, inverters, collection lines, access roads, and a substation intended to interconnect with an existing 345-kilovolt transmission line.
County approval of the Special Use Permit would address whether the land use is appropriate under county zoning, but it would not authorize construction. The applicant would still need additional steps before any construction could begin, including site and building plans submissions, county site plan review and permitting, a building permit, and execution of multiple agreements such as development, road use and maintenance, decommissioning, and a community benefit agreement, along with other required approvals.
The Holcomb–Garden City–Finney County Area Planning Commission previously recommended approval during its March 19, 2026, meeting. The county encourages public participation at the public comment portion of the meeting and accepts written comments by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2026, via email or in person at the Planning and Development Department address in Garden City. The meeting will be livestreamed and recorded on Finney County’s Facebook and YouTube pages.
