Geary County leaders have approved a one-year moratorium on data center development, creating additional time to develop regulations before any new projects move forward. The decision gives the county a defined window to refine its approach to how data centers are reviewed and permitted.
At a meeting on June 22, Geary County GIS/Planning and Zoning Director Troy Livingston presented the proposal for commissioners to implement the one-year moratorium on data centers. The approval means the county will delay further data center project activity while the regulatory work proceeds.
KSNT 27 News reports the moratorium is intended to help the county prepare rules in advance of future development proposals.
