Cornerstone Armory expands youth and job-prep efforts for Barton County residents

Cornerstone Armory says it has already served more than 215 people through outreach initiatives since launching in November 2025, including food assistance, clothing support, homeless care bags, youth programming, mentorship opportunities, and other community-focused efforts in Barton County and nearby rural communities.

A community outreach center interior with pathways to youth mentorship, mock interview practice, and food assistance spaces.

The organization’s work also includes donations distributed to health care partners through programs such as The Grin Bin and The Bright Spot, supporting the University of Kansas Health System Great Bend Campus and Pawnee Valley Community Hospital. Cornerstone Armory, founded by Shane and Skylar Meeker, is positioning its outreach to reach underserved communities through events, food distribution, community partnerships, and personal mentorship.

New initiatives include a monthly Youth Night for teens, described as a safe and positive space to build friendships, connect with mentors, and develop healthy life skills. The organization also plans to launch a Job Readiness Program in August, intended to help participants build workplace skills, professionalism, communication and interview techniques, conflict resolution strategies, and confidence for employment. Local employers will be invited to take part in practice interview panels and mentorship opportunities.

Cornerstone Armory’s efforts align with the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce’s Elevate GBK: Beyond Today strategic plan, and the Chamber hosted a ribbon cutting for the organization to highlight its outreach, mentorship, workforce preparation, and partnerships.
