The Great Bend Bat Cats ran into another offensive drought in the NBC World Series in Wichita, falling behind as the Liberal Bee Jays stretched the game into another stretch of scoreless baseball. After six innings, Great Bend trailed 6-0, extending the Bat Cats’ NBC scoreless streak to 14 innings.
Liberal’s scoring surge hinged on multiple bases-loaded opportunities. When Great Bend put runners on, Jaxon Bunkers struck out and Chase Kessler grounded into a double play. Liberal then broke through after Cole Manuel, following three consecutive walks, hit a grand slam homer off Bat Cats reliever Jackson Thompson.
Through 13 innings, Great Bend had managed just 3-for-15 at the plate with runners on base, highlighted by patience issues including a pair of six-pitch innings. The NBC World Series continues with Great Bend scheduled to play Liberal again.
