Great Bend couple aims to create year-round indoor play and family entertainment

A Great Bend couple is competing for IGNITE funding with a plan to open a family-focused entertainment destination designed for children and their families year-round in Barton County. Billy and Kassandra Eldridge say the project is meant to provide a safe place to play, connect, and make memories without families having to leave the community.

With the help of the IGNITE program, the Eldridges’ proposal centers on large indoor play structures along with an arcade and party rooms. They describe the concept as “purposeful play,” intended to support active play and childhood development while giving families an all-in-one option regardless of weather.

Great Bend Economic Development is scheduled to announce the 2026 IGNITE winner Oct. 8 at the historic Crest Theater. Five finalists have been named: Great Bend Play Place; Little Window Restaurant Group; Sugar Co.; The Book Cellar; and The Zarah Coffee Shop. Little Window Restaurant Group has since withdrawn from the competition.

The Eldridges say the biggest challenge they’ve faced is securing funding and finding the right location. If awarded the grand prize, they say the funding would go toward purchasing a large indoor play structure, and they hope the business will create 14–16 jobs while drawing families from surrounding communities to support other local businesses.
