The trophies once belonged to the late Ralph Terry, who lived in Larned for many years before his passing in 2022. Officers recovered “a couple of” the stolen trophies that belonged to Terry, a Major League player who spent time with the Kansas City Athletics, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, and the New York Yankees. His career included throwing final pitches in World Series Game 7s in 1960 and 1962, and he was named the 1962 World Series Most Valuable Player.
After baseball, Terry also found success as a professional golfer. According to the police account, the recovered trophies were part of pieces of Terry’s legacy, and the department said the result was a meaningful return to Terry’s family. The agency also thanked the citizen whose attentiveness helped make the reunion possible.
