Chayla Prendergast, a GBHS senior, serves as vice president for the newly formed Kansas chapter. She was originally the director of outreach after applying to the board, but was promoted within the group. The chapter was started this summer by Ellie Lund of Clay Center, who applied to form a board and led the effort to create a Kansas chapter.
Because the chapter launched only this summer, Prendergast said promotion has been a challenge and many people still don’t know what the program is yet. Organizers are working to establish a community presence, grow the membership base, and identify potential service projects, including a hygiene product donation drive. They also hope to partner with local nonprofits on efforts such as food pantries and clothing drives.
To support programming, the chapter is seeking funding through GoFundMe and Cash App, and it has launched a newsletter to share updates. Interested volunteers, members, and partners can connect via the chapter’s Instagram account or contact Prendergast by email.
