Salina police arrest two people living in a home under renovation

Salina Police arrested two people after officers found them staying inside a residence under renovation, following a report of subjects at the property in the 400 block of South 11th. Officers responded at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday and made contact with Kyle Cavitt (33) and Stephanie Dewey (35).

The individuals told officers they had noticed the vacant residence the previous day and decided to move in. Investigators determined there was damage to a door valued at about $300, and that the pair had been using utilities at the home.

Both were taken into custody on charges that could include burglary, theft of services, and criminal damage to property. The incident underscores how vacant properties under repair can be targeted, and why prompt responses help limit damage while renovations are underway.
