A body was recovered Saturday evening after a reported drowning at Horsethief Reservoir, according to the Hodgeman County Sheriff’s Office, with the incident first reported shortly after 3:10 pm via a 911 call.
First responders were dispatched to the reservoir’s swimming area, and additional units were sent as the situation shifted from a possible drowning to a recovery operation. Shortly after 5 pm, a Kansas Wildlife and Parks sonar unit located the individual, and the victim was removed from the water.
The victim did not survive the event. Specific information about the person was not immediately released because next-of-kin notification was still being completed.
