Recent Humboldt graduate Laney Hull is taking one more step back before choosing where her athletic career goes next: she plans to enjoy one last run on the diamond with her teammates. Hull wrapped up her high school season after competing in the regional finals and state-level events, including the 300-meter hurdles and the high jump at Wichita State.
Hull’s senior run included a regional finals appearance with Humboldt falling 3-0 to eventual state champion Colgan. She also earned Allen County Area Female Athlete of the Month honors in May. On the academic side, Humboldt High listed her on the teacher’s honor roll for a GPA between 3.0 and 3.5, and she graduated with enough community college credits to narrow her junior college options.
Now she’s weighing offers while aiming to continue competing at Emporia State University. Hull played shortstop for the 19-10 Tri-Valley League champion Lady Cubs and was an All-TVL honorable mention, posting a .323 batting average with 35 runs batted in, eight triples, and seven doubles. She said she is still deciding between walking on for track or softball, with at least a month before the decision—while also reflecting on the team bonds that helped her succeed.
