Newman earned 2A All-State First Team honors, winning the 2A state tournament at Winfield’s Quail Ridge Golf Course. He took first place by five strokes and is the first individual from Humboldt High School to win a state golf championship. This season, he won first place in all but three tournaments and captured a regional title.
Coffield was selected for the KSHSAA All-State Golf Team after competing on the course at the state level. The Iola Register reports that Coffield finished seventh at the state tournament in Topeka and earned one gold medal, three silver medals, and one third-place medal this year.
The two golfers’ seasons included head-to-head competition as well, with Coffield prevailing over Newman in the Humboldt Invitational while playing at the Allen County Country Club.
