In the first game, Iola led for much of the opener, but the Indians collapsed late as Garnett produced a 7-1 run fueled by three hits and six walks. Iola’s scoring included a two-RBI double by first baseman Austin Campbell, and an RBI double by outfielder Ty Thomas that put Post 15 ahead 3-2 in the fourth. The Indians also committed six errors, though their bats stayed productive at times.
In the nightcap, Iola managed only three hits, and the Muddogs held the Junior Indians to three total hits while Iola drew just three walks. On the pitching side, Iola starter Cade Curry recorded seven strikeouts over three innings in the opener, while Colony starting pitcher Andrew Donovan took the loss in the finale after allowing five runs.
With the setbacks, the Indians’ record drops to 4-11-1. Their next scheduled game is July 9 at Pittsburg State University, with first pitch set for 5:30 p.m., for the Kansas Senators Kansas American Legion Class C 17U State Tournament.
