The Iola American Legion Post 15 Junior Indians saw their season come to a close with a 5-0 shutout loss to the Wellsville Post 194 Eagles on day three of the Kansas American Legion State Tournament at Pittsburg’s Jaycee Park, the Iola Register reports. Wellsville limited Iola’s scoring despite six Iola runners reaching base. The Eagles’ pitcher, Joey Immediato, recorded seven strikeouts, helping Wellsville maintain the shutout. Iola’s starting pitcher, Thomas Allee, took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits with two walks, while Jaxen Mueller came in during the third inning and held Wellsville to one run in the sixth. Mueller finished with two strikeouts and allowed four hits and two walks. On offense, Mueller, along with catcher Andrew Donovan, second baseman Ty Thomas, and Allee, each were successful in 1 of 3 at-bats, and shortstop Braylon Keithly drew two walks. Iola ends the season with a 4-14-1 record, and the team notes that most setbacks came against older 17U programs. Several players are expected to return, including incoming sophomores and freshmen.
