Southwind Extension opens Master Gardener training with hybrid classes this fall

Plant lovers in the region can now apply for Kansas Extension Master Gardener training running Sept. 3 through Dec. 3, offered in a hybrid format that pairs in-person classes with Zoom instruction. Krista Harding Southwind Extension says the program is designed to equip participants with practical horticulture knowledge while keeping the training accessible for busy schedules.

The Extension Master Gardener program is a volunteer model connected to K-State Extension. After completing 40 to 50 hours of coursework covering multiple aspects of horticulture, participants are expected to donate an equivalent number of volunteer service hours to Extension horticulture programs.

Training will be taught by Kansas State University specialists, local Extension agents, and area horticulture experts. Applications are available now and must be submitted to the Southwind Extension District by Aug. 15, with a $95 registration fee. To apply, residents can use the Southwind Extension District website or request a mailed application.
