K-156 reopens west of Jetmore as detour wraps up, with lane limits continuing for shoulder widening

K-156 west of Jetmore in Hodgeman County has reopened to traffic after the signed detour phase of an ongoing shoulder widening project was completed, the Kansas Department of Transportation said. While the road is open, drivers should be prepared for intermittent single-lane restrictions along the work corridor.

Traffic will be directed through affected zones using a flagger and pilot car operation. Motorists are urged to slow down, stay alert, and follow posted signs and crew instructions as the project continues.

The work is part of a larger project that includes widening shoulders, flattening the existing profile, replacing multiple bridge structures, and reconstructing the roadway. The project runs from the U.S. 283/K-156 intersection west about 4 miles to 214 Road. Venture Corporation of Great Bend is the contractor on the $21.5 million project, which is expected to finish by the end of December 2026, weather permitting.
