Union Pacific’s Big Boy steam locomotive No. 4014 is scheduled to return to the Kansas City area on Tuesday, July 21, bringing a major rail landmark to Union Station for public display as part of its Midwest tour, KMBC 9 reports.
The locomotive is expected to arrive at Union Station around 5:30 p.m. and be available for viewing from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. A second public viewing window is planned for Wednesday, July 22, with Big Boy on display from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Union Pacific employees will host a private event from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., when the locomotive won’t be open to the public.
The tour route also includes a Kansas leg beginning Thursday, July 23, when Big Boy departs Kansas City at 9 a.m. It’s scheduled to stop at Great Overland Station from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m., then continue west to Salina, arriving around 6 p.m. Pleasant Hill officials say the locomotive is also expected to make a brief stop there at approximately 2:20 p.m. before reaching Kansas City.
