A heat advisory is in effect for Monday as dangerous heat and humidity push heat index values up to 110 in eastern Kansas, with similar conditions across the Kansas City area. KMBC 9 reports it’s an “Impact Day,” meaning conditions are expected to be hazardous for people spending time outdoors.
Monday’s afternoon temperatures should climb into the mid- to upper 90s, but it will feel significantly hotter, with heat index readings projected between 105 and 110 degrees. Morning temperatures are expected around 76 degrees, rising to a near 96-degree high. The guidance is to take frequent breaks, stay hydrated, and seek shade when possible.
Relief is expected later this week. The heat begins to ease after Tuesday, with highs staying in the lower 90s Tuesday before a cooler, less humid pattern arrives Wednesday, when temperatures are expected to top out near 87 degrees. Rain chances return late in the week, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible Thursday afternoon and additional showers developing late Thursday night into Friday morning. Highs should cool into the lower 80s by Thursday and Friday.
