Flood Watch continues this morning as AM rain ends, with possible PM storms for parts of eastern Kansas

An Alert Day is in effect as widespread morning rain moves through eastern Kansas, with officials saying the severe threat this morning is wrapping up and concern shifting mainly to flooding. Flooding alerts are in effect this morning, and a Flood Watch remains in place until this evening. By 6 AM, several spots had already received more than 2 inches of rain, and more rain is still possible.

Eastern Kansas and Kansas City are expected to start drying out after 10 AM, though a few lingering spotty showers could continue into the early afternoon. Forecasters say areas north of I-70 are more likely to stay dry for the day with some PM sunshine, while locations mainly south of I-70 could see storms later today. The possibility of strong storms in the afternoon and evening is described as uncertain and depends on how the morning rain behaves.

Officials also advise staying weather aware, since if storms develop later, all severe hazards could be possible. The forecast calls for a cooler, drier start Monday, with highs in the mid-70s, and additional rain chances mid-to-late week.
