KMBC 9 reports the heaviest rainfall is most likely overnight, particularly for communities south of Kansas City.
Thunderstorm chances begin late Thursday afternoon, with scattered downpours and storms developing between 1 and 4 p.m. Larger areas of steady rain with embedded thunderstorms are expected from 4 to 8 p.m. Lightning may contribute to delays during the World Cup match between Tunisia and the Netherlands.
More concentrated totals are possible south of Kansas City, with 2 to 3 inches of rain forecast along and south of I-70 and up to 5 inches possible in a few spots. KMBC 9 also notes that while the risk of damaging wind and large hail is low, heat and humidity are expected to rise over the weekend, bringing morning lows in the 70s and afternoon highs in the lower 90s, with heat index values above 100 degrees next week.
