Friday and Saturday may bring hotter, more humid afternoons—and a chance of pop-up thunderstorms

A typical July weather pattern is expected to settle over the Kansas City region, bringing higher humidity and temperatures running a little hotter than normal. Highs are forecast to land in the upper 80s to near 90.

With the added humidity, the heat index is expected to rise into the middle to upper 90s, and at times could reach closer to 100 degrees.

A few pop-up afternoon thunderstorms are possible on Friday and Saturday, with storms more likely on Friday. The combination of heat and humidity may make conditions feel significantly hotter than the air temperature.
