KMBC 9 reports that the FIFA Fan Festival in Kansas City closed early at 5 p.m. Saturday due to an approaching severe weather threat.
Organizers announced shortly after 4 p.m. that the event would close at 5 p.m. and remain closed for the rest of the day.
According to the report, strong to severe thunderstorms were expected to move into the Kansas City area later Saturday. The metro area remains under a tornado watch until 11 p.m.
