Madam President Camp brings leadership and confidence-building activities to young girls

A Kansas City-area camp is aiming to strengthen girls’ confidence and leadership skills with a weeklong program built around education and themed activities, KMBC 9 reports.

The independent camp, Madam President Camp, serves girls ages 8 to 14 and focuses on the idea that girls can see confidence drop in middle school before it rebounds later in life. About 20 middle-school-aged participants spent the week at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, with each day tied to one of five pillars: self-discovery, communication, leadership, civic engagement and activism.

Camp facilitators structured lessons and hands-on games to help girls identify what they want to speak up for, envision future goals, and learn ways to give back to the community. Participants described the experience as fun and said it helped them learn leadership skills and feel more comfortable talking to others.
