Midtown Costco proposal clears planning step toward becoming a business center

A Kansas City proposal to shift the Midtown Costco toward a business-focused warehouse model advanced after the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans to convert the site into a Costco Business Center. KMBC 9 reports the commission’s vote followed plans tied to the Costco located at Linwood Boulevard and Main Street. The project is not final yet. The proposal will next go before the full Kansas City Council for consideration, which means additional action is still required before any change is approved. The planning vote comes after city leaders urged Costco to preserve key Midtown services, including grocery access, pharmacy services and jobs. City Council and mayoral leadership sent a letter to the company in June asking for a compromise that would maintain services residents rely on, and the commission’s approval moves those plans into the next stage of the city’s process.
