Kansas City firefighters received a call around 4:06 a.m. Saturday for an apartment complex near Roberts Street and Bales Avenue. When they arrived, smoke and flames were visible. Two residents had escaped, but crews rescued a third person trapped in the apartment.

Firefighters brought the fire under control, and EMS transported a man, a woman, and a child to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The woman also had burns. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the city of Kansas City will determine whether the building is a total loss.
