Plan for storms and heat: Kansas City faces a warm summer stretch

Kansas City is heading into another warm day with only a low chance of spotty rain, but forecasters are urging residents to be ready for thunderstorms coming Thursday, before a stretch of sunny, very hot and humid conditions. KMBC 9’s forecast calls for temperatures to keep climbing quickly as the week goes on.

On Thursday, there’s a 40% chance of spotty thunderstorms between 1 and 7 p.m. with the potential for heavy downpours that could lead to flash flooding, along with strong winds in some storms. The outlook also indicates that numerous severe thunderstorms are not expected.

Friday looks sunny and hot, with a stated heat index reaching about 97. From Saturday through Monday, hot and humid weather continues, with heat index readings roughly in the 100–104 range. WBGT guidance recommends limiting hard work, play, or exercise to no more than 2 hours during the hottest part of the day, and taking a 4-minute break every 20 minutes to reduce the risk of heat-related illness.
