Rays’ Seymour and Mullins send Royals to 5-2 loss in Kansas City

The Tampa Bay Rays extended their winning streak to eight games with a 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night, powered by Cedric Mullins’ two-run homer and strong starting pitching from Ian Seymour. The Rays also got run production from Taylor Walls, Richie Palacios and Hunter Feduccia, while Junior Caminero saw his home run streak end at six games after going 0 for 5.

Seymour (5-1) gave Kansas City an early scare by allowing a leadoff homer to Carter Jensen, but he limited the damage afterward with just two additional hits over six innings. He struck out eight and walked one. From there, Cam Booser and Garrett Cleavinger set up Bryan Baker, who closed the game in the ninth for his 22nd save.

Stephen Kolek struggled for the Royals in his first start since his wife gave birth last week. He allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in the second inning and did not return for the third, ultimately giving up nine runs in his most recent start against St. Louis. Kansas City also had defensive miscues in the second inning that hurt its chances, and Isaac Collins homered in the seventh. The Royals have now lost seven of their last eight games.
