Scattered strong storms possible Friday afternoon and evening before a hotter, drier stretch

After widespread thunderstorms brought heavy rain to the Kansas City area Thursday morning, more scattered storm activity is expected Friday afternoon and early evening. KMBC 9 reports that communities in the Kansas City region saw between 1 and 4 inches of rain Thursday morning, and multiple severe thunderstorm warnings were issued before conditions quieted later in the day.

Friday, storms are expected to develop between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. across the Kansas City metro and areas to the east. While the overall severe weather risk is considered low, a few of the scattered storms could become severe, making it important to monitor Friday’s forecast through the afternoon and evening.

The pattern is expected to shift afterward, with hotter and drier conditions settling in for next week. Saturday is also expected to be mostly dry for the FIFA World Cup quarterfinal at Arrowhead Stadium, with highs in the upper 80s and temperatures easing into the upper 70s after the match.
