A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday, with heavy rain continuing overnight across the Kansas City metro, KMBC 9 reports. The National Weather Service says strong to severe storms are possible for much of the metro area, including Kansas counties Johnson, Wyandotte, Leavenworth and Miami.
Storms moving through overnight could bring strong winds, frequent lightning and torrential rainfall. A flood watch stays in effect through Sunday evening for much of eastern Kansas and for western and northern Missouri, including the Kansas City metro—making flooding the biggest concern during the periods of heaviest rain.
Rain is expected to taper off by midmorning Sunday, though another round of thunderstorms could develop Sunday afternoon as a cold front moves through. Any stronger storms should diminish by early evening as the front pushes south and east. Sunday’s high is expected to be near 80 degrees.
After a stormy Sunday, Monday and Tuesday look quieter with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s. By Wednesday, skies shift to a mix of sun and clouds, with a slight chance of a spotty late-day shower.
