A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for much of the Kansas City metro until 9 p.m., with a few strong to severe thunderstorms possible Friday evening.
Damaging wind and hail are the main threats, and flooding is also a concern. Conditions should clear out across the metro Friday evening, with temperatures dropping into the upper 60s.
Any leftover storms could linger Saturday morning, but it should dry out after that. The quarterfinal match at Kansas City Stadium is expected to be clear, with high temperatures in the mid- to upper 80s. Sunday’s conditions are expected to be about the same.
Heat and humidity return for most of next week, with heat index values topping 100 for several days in a row, according to KMBC 9.
