Clear skies won’t mean relief in Kansas City: hot, humid conditions are expected to continue for the rest of the week, with highs in the 90s and triple-digit heat indexes. An extreme heat warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. Friday, with temperatures holding in the mid-90s Wednesday and overnight lows in the upper 70s.
Gusty winds are helping keep skies mostly clear, and dust moving overhead from the Sahara is not expected to lower air quality. Even so, the combination of heat and humidity is forecast to keep conditions oppressive through the week and into the holiday weekend.
By the end of the Fourth of July, a small storm system is expected to move in. Forecast timing suggests fireworks may be able to go on, but rain and storm chances are most likely overnight Saturday into Sunday. Additional rain may reach the area on Monday as well, but conditions are not expected to feel any more comfortable.
