Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab says the state’s election safeguards are operating as intended heading into the August primary and the race for governor. In an interview with KMBC’s Cody Holyoke, Schwab urged Kansans to have confidence in Kansas’ election system as election security remains in the public spotlight.
Schwab pointed to Kansas’ post-election processes—specifically audits and recounts—as evidence of election integrity. He referenced a 2022 hand recount in which more than 65% of ballots were hand recounted in a close treasurer’s race, adding that no county changed its outcome. Schwab also suggested that people who are concerned attend poll work to see multiple layers of security firsthand.
Beyond prior audits, Schwab said Kansas is investigating four possible cases of illegal voting from the last election. He said that even if all four cases are confirmed, they would not have changed the outcome of any race.
