KDOT planning grants aim to make walking and biking safer for Kansas students

Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has announced Safe Routes to School planning grants intended to improve safety for children traveling to school. KSNT 27 News reports that the state’s transportation authorities say multiple Kansas communities are receiving support to develop plans for safer routes.

The announcement, made in a press release dated July 16, identifies four Kansas communities as recipients of planning grants through the Safe Routes to School program. The grants are designed to help communities lay the groundwork for safer travel options for students.

Safe Routes to School is focused on the specific challenge of getting children to and from school safely, and these planning funds are a first step for local efforts. As communities move from planning toward implementation, the goal is to strengthen day-to-day safety for students heading to school.
