The League of Women Voters of Great Bend, partnering with the Barton Community College Foundation, is inviting the community to support a new Bev Komarek and Rose Kelly Memorial Scholarship through a fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. July 23 at Pizza Hut, 2006 Main St., in Great Bend. Community members can dine in or order carryout; when they mention the fundraiser, Pizza Hut will donate 15% of the sale to the scholarship.

The memorial scholarship is community-funded to honor Bev Komarek and Rose Kelly and to help future Barton Community College students pursue fields connected to their passions. The scholarship will offer $500 awards for students studying History and Anthropology in Komarek’s name, and $500 awards for students studying Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, or Education in Kelly’s name. The number of scholarships awarded each year will depend on contributions received.

Proceeds will be managed through the Barton Community College Foundation, which also accepts tax-deductible contributions for people who can’t attend the fundraiser. For details, the foundation can be reached at 620-786-1136 or via bartonccfoundation.org.
