People gather on a downtown avenue for a street festival and watch-party atmosphere for a soccer match.

Lawrence soccer fans can celebrate Team Algeria’s second World Cup group match with a free street party downtown starting at 5 p.m. Monday outside the Granada at 1020 Massachusetts St. The event is open to all ages and includes Free State Samba, a DJ set, local vendors and concessions, and face painting.

Algeria plays Jordan at 10 p.m. Monday in San Francisco. For people who want to watch together, free watch parties are listed at the same Granada location and at Lucia at 1016 Massachusetts St.

For context on how the group has started, Jordan previously lost 3-1 to Austria, and Algeria previously lost 3-0 to Argentina.

The next Lawrence-area viewing plans continue the weekend: Team Algeria returns to Kansas City for its third group stage match against Austria on Saturday, June 27 at 9 p.m., and additional community programming around Free State Festival events is scheduled during the week at Lawrence venues.
