Downtown Lawrence parking will be free on Friday, June 19 for Juneteenth, when the federal holiday falls. The change applies to parking meters, lots and garages in the downtown area.
Lawrence Transit will run limited service that day. Routes 1–12 will operate, while Central Station will be closed; residents can check the complete service calendar at lawrencetransit.org/service-calendar/.
Several other public services will also pause or adjust. There will be no changes to trash pickup schedules, and pickup will not be delayed for the holiday. Eagle Bend Golf Course will be open from 8 a.m. to dusk, weather permitting, while Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed to the public except for Nature Camp. The Outdoor Aquatic Center at 727 Kentucky St. will be open Friday from 1 to 6 p.m., but there will be no classes or swim lessons. All other Lawrence Parks and Recreation facilities—including administrative offices and indoor and recreation centers—will be closed Friday. The Lawrence Public Library will close, though the online library remains available 24/7.
Douglas County District Court and City of Lawrence and Douglas County offices will be closed Friday. Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center will also be closed; for crisis care, the feed directs people to call HeadQuarters Kansas at 988, and notes that the Treatment and Recovery Center of Douglas County at 1000 W. Second St. is available 24/7/365.
