Storm repairs clear the way for Stephenson Scholarship Hall’s Lawrence move-in

Stephenson Scholarship Hall at the University of Kansas will reopen for the 2026-27 academic year after completed exterior repairs tied to storm damage earlier this spring, The Lawrence Times reports. The storms in April caused a large section of brick siding along the attic to fall off, crushing an emergency staircase and flooding the basement.

No injuries were reported, and students moved into temporary housing for that week. Repairs focused on areas where the building’s structure was compromised, including damaged brick and a fire escape, according to KU spokesperson Erinn Barcomb-Peterson.

House residents across KU’s scholarship halls are scheduled to move in Wednesday, Aug. 19. Hall staff have returned, and student leaders are expected to move in this weekend ahead of residents’ arrival. Barcomb-Peterson said housing auxiliary funds covered the repairs and no additional funding was needed, and she reported no reassignment or alternate housing will be required.
