Macksville Day Care project advances after county hearing and lot acquisition

Macksville’s planned day care project took another step forward after the Stafford County Board of County Commissioners held a public hearing and confirmed the county had acquired a lot next to the library. Commissioners also received assurance that 25% match funds are on hand, with no cost to the county indicated for the project.

During the Aug. 19 meeting in the Commission Room in the Annex, Ryan Russell reported that final application paperwork was ready for the Macksville Day Care Grant project. The grant application is expected to be submitted at the end of September, with a decision anticipated by November.

The project’s total projected cost is approximately $424,000. Economic Development will own and maintain the building, while the funding package discussed includes $231,000 in community cost credits from Lightsource BP and additional funding through a Child Care Zone Grant.

After the hearing, commissioners moved to allow the chairman to sign the grant application documents and approved resolutions certifying legal authority to apply for the grant and pledge funds to the project. The Great Bend Tribune carried details from the county’s meeting minutes.
