Marshall County OKs bridge and basement repairs as access-control bids move forward

Marshall County commissioners approved contracts and purchase orders tied to public works repairs, including bridge repair work in Wells Township west of Frankfort and basement repairs at the county facility. The board also discussed access-control bids for the Courthouse and the Helvering Center and heard from watershed representatives about ongoing flooding concerns affecting a county road.

At the Aug. 24, 2026 regular session, the board approved minutes from the Aug. 17 meeting and the day’s agenda. Public Works Administrator Mike Craig presented an estimate for bridge repair in Wells Township west of Frankfort from Norfolk Construction for $32,234, and the commissioners approved the bid for wing repair on a bridge in the same location for $32,234. For basement work, the board revisited repair bids for a 54-foot section: Groundworks of Omaha was priced at $12,713.74 and Lamunyon of Clay Center was priced at $12,595, with the Lamunyon scope including repair work on the utility room crack; commissioners approved the Lamunyon option.

Representatives with the Upper Black Vermillion Watershed—Terry Smith, Morgan Wanklyn, Stephen Bergman, and John Haug—met with the board regarding the “Brady” watershed pond on 28th Road North of Lillis and continued flooding concerns with the county road. Commissioners also discussed recent access control bids for the Courthouse and Helvering Center, including plans for additional cameras and panic buttons, and agreed the access-control bids would be discussed next week.
