Jerry Moran urges Senate Agriculture Committee to revise Farm Bill draft before moving forward

U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, issued a statement addressing a Senate Farm Bill discussion draft and arguing it should not advance in its current form. Moran said the draft includes priorities he views as beneficial for U.S. farmers and ranchers and for rural communities, but he highlighted one missing policy element.

In the statement, Moran said the Senate discussion draft does not include his legislation to permanently transfer the administration of the Food for Peace program to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). He noted that Food for Peace is currently temporarily administered by USDA and that permanently moving the program would provide long-term stability and continued success, while also benefiting American farmers through support of markets for U.S. agricultural commodities.

Moran pointed to the House-passed Farm Bill as including the Food for Peace transfer provision, and he urged the Senate Agriculture Committee to resolve the omission before advancing the legislation.
