Allen County Emergency Management Director Jason Trego later said on the department’s Facebook page that the funnel-like feature was a harmless cold funnel, not a tornado. A cold funnel forms when a spiraling gust of cold air pierces through a cloud, creating a tornado-like appearance.
Sparks reported that the funnel rapidly retreated back into the clouds and did not descend again.
