A 13-year-old soccer superfan in Overland Park is asking for a living kidney donor after doctors warned his failing kidney disease is progressing toward the need for dialysis. Jake Hanna, who has chronic kidney disease diagnosed at age 3, has remained active with sports, but his energy has been declining and he recently had to quit his competitive club team, the Legends, because of fatigue.
His family says his kidney is expected to be “on a timer,” with dialysis expected within about three months if a transplant does not happen. They also describe the added daily burden of treatment at home, including injections and medication management.
Hanna has shared his request through TikTok, hoping someone will respond. Interested donors are instructed to contact Children’s Mercy Hospital, mention Jake Hanna’s name, and ask for organ donation resources so they can be connected to next steps.
KMBC 9 reports that Jake Hanna and his family are also emphasizing the urgency of donor availability, noting that many people wait for kidneys and some do not receive one in time.
